Valenth

Not a species so much as a model, the varanius robots were created by MIRACLE Energy Co. for the purpose of-- for lack of a better term -- world maintenance. Powered by tiny depleted Mirajin crystals, they are wonders of modern Valenthian engineering.

Varani are small creatures made to resemble dragons, all with black outer skins with high-contrast manes, eyes, and glowing binary lines across their backs. Streamlined and flexible, they are designed for slipping into small spaces in machinery to perform maintenance where human hands cannot hope to reach.

While intelligent, the varanius is incapable of free thought, as it functions based on the programming it runs on; a vara would be able to devise the most efficient solution to a problem when given multiple options in its database to choose from, but would be unable to come up with an original solution on its own.
For this reason, they are considered harmless, and are a common feature in Valenthian homes -- indeed, it would be considered unusual for a home to not have several of them, kept for all aspects of household life, from basic cleaning to repair and maintenance of electrical appliances.

On a more public convenience level, they are responsible for the running of most ammenities - an all purpose handyman and manual labour source. Any task deemed too big for one vara will be carried out by a small team instead, and given that they are surprisingly strong for their size, this is usually sufficient for most things.

Varani often "vocalize" with a range of beeps and chirps, described in owners' manuals as 'service beeps'-- sounds used to indicate a unit is active in the area. However, the creatures often seem to make use of it to communicate with one another, or even to "talk" to themselves.

Even more surprising, on occasion these sounds become reminiscent of laughter...
