The W O R L D -of- V A L E N T H

Valenth is a mid-sized planet in the Twin Dancers planetary system.
It has a small, black moon--Chira, "little bat"-- and two suns, from which the system draws its name; tiny, yellow Ciere, and the much larger, blue Degregorius.

Life on Valenth is widely-varied, from common beasts and beings such as sparrows, dogs, and humans, to more fantastic fair folk, dragons and wandering spirits.
As a whole, the world is a great mash of natural forces, rampant and wild magics, and all manner of steam-science contraptions.

Valenth's prevalent races are often divided continentally; the fastest species to evolve and develop socially tend to spread across an area and eventually claim it as their own.
Whether higher powers truly exist is up for debate-- in all recorded cases to date, revered "deities" are often corporeal beings in some form or another, such as powerful dragons, Behemoths, God-Emperors, or Chapters, for example (though many would argue that these sources are still greatly influential upon their followers).
For this reason, large, organized groups and their leaders collectively hold more power over the world than any other source.

Below, each of the nine continents of Valenth are listed below, along with incomplete lists of their main cities.

Aensdoun
People: Anshe
Climate: Temperate to Continental
Population: 220,000

Believed to be the heart of the world, Aensdoun has belonged to the elves--the Aeneski --since the beginning of time, and it is here that magic in its first, most perfect form came to be.
It was once part of Dreamsong, before the crust of Valenth was split by the sea and pulled away over the millenia. Old, wild, and minimally tainted, Aensdoun is much like a warmer Schalle.

Today, many great idols of elven design tower over Aensdoun's deep, ancient forests; these stone monuments mark the entrances to Anshe cities, strung high across the trees or hidden deep within the ground. Beasts of all kinds wander the land, many of them believed lost to time or war.

While the Anshe are known to travel to other lands, they are violently protective of their own; outsiders are regarded with great suspicion, elven or not...and legends state that troublemakers are captured and fed to ancient Aeneski gods.

Chimre
People: Chimrean
Climate: Continental
Population: 659,000

Mimore
People: Mimoran
Climate: Temperate to Continental
Population: Unknown

Chimre and Mimore are both under the direct rule of the Dreamwaker and the Silent Rose Association-- Chimre's elegant capitol city, Laps-du-Ment, being the home of the Chapter.
Some believe the Fatis Mirajin itself is kept there as well, while others believe it is hidden deep within Mimore--surrounded on all sides by staggering mountain ranges and guarded from unauthorized entry by a mysterious order known as the Iicarn.
Just what exists within Mimore is unknown to all outside of the SRO-- and classified information for those within it who do know.

Chimre has been deeply affected by the power of the dreamcrystal, so much so that it is molecularly unstable; many unprotected creatures who wander in from Dreamsong eventually find themselves irreversibly mutated without warning, and the entire region is well-known for magical phenomena such as petalshowers and aetherholes.

Due to the massive amounts of mirajin energy permeating the continent, Chimre is mostly populated by those loyal to (and perhaps created by) the Silent Rose. Most of these have either recieved crystal shards which absorb and neutralize the effects of the chaotic magic,or are simply too foolhardy or insane to worry about the potential hazards.

On occasion, scientific expeditions travel to Chimre to study the area; these are welcomed with open (if bemused) arms, though rumors abound that many who make the trip do not return home.

Dreamsong
People: Dremish
Climate: Temperate to Continental
Population: 2,000,000

Dreamsong is the largest continent on Valenth in one piece (some might argue Schalle or Chimre and Mimore to be larger when made whole).
Colonized by the Fair Folk millenia ago, Dreamsong and Aensdoun were once a single landmass. Today, its rule is primarily divided between humans and elves, though many small towns and tribes of other beings can be found scattered throughout its vast open plains and countless woodland.

The Somnambulist Headquarters and the Grand Society of Steam can be found within the heart of Gier, one of the most populous and diverse cities in the world.

Faerwethr (75% Silisk, 25% Other)

Hel
People: Helen
Climate: Continental to Polar
Population: 450 (living)

Home of the viadante and the first vampires, Hel is very little like its extraplanar sound-alike. Glittering snowscapes and sparse forests cover the small, chilly continent, dotted with the ancient castles and keeps of its shadowy denizens.

There are no cities in Hel, only small trade and port towns, just enough for the viadante to provide their vassals with goods necessary for life--while they still possess it, at least.

Liasse
People: Lassen
Climate: Arid to Tundra
Population: 15,000

Liasse is known as the Arena of the Elements-- its northern half is largely desert, while the south is frozen solid. Within the two extremes lies Lassenbhurg, a great city-stronghold crafted by powerful magics, where magician and scientist alike perform all manner of experiments for the benefit of society (or the majority of them do, at any rate).

Curiously, while Mirajin radiation does reach Liasse (as well as the very edge of Lucsus up north), Lassen mages draw in the energy to harness for their own purposes. This meets with varying degrees of success, which leaves many an apprentice to clean up their masters' remains.

Common folk often remark that Liasse is likely the second most distorted place on Valenth--if you discount Mimore for lack of knowing for certain, of course.

Lucsus
People: Luxi
Climate: Arid
Population: 310,000

Dry and scorching, the land of Lucsus is a harsh place--its inhabitants are more than aware of that fact. Rather than attempt to survive in the barren, chaotic wastes, the Chimaera who make it their home have tunneled deep beneath the surface, crafting an ornate system of caverns and passageways that culminate in the great Soril City, a merchants' paradise.

Lucsus is the heart of the world's trade; Luxi dealers buy and sell absolutely anything in the sprawling subterranean marketplace, free from the hindrances they would face doing business in more scrupulous markets. Of course, black-market dealings arguably make the Chimaeras' den just as dangerous a place as the overworld, but the Luxi are a tough, hardy people--and their mercenaries are second to none.

Nox
People: Nox
Climate: Polar
Population: 350-750

Nox is the least populous continent on Valenth; very few sentient beings make their homes here. As a result, the land is ruled by elementals of the ice and water, massive direfrost bears, and perhaps a few scattered tribal communities.

Schalle
People: Scheik
Climate: Continental to Polar
Population: 315,000

A massive stretch of land, Schalle is a lush continent full of wildlife uncorrupted by the Mirajin's power-- it is the beloved land of the Flamekeeper, whose dragons and allies ensure that none of the dreamtaint enters the country.
Schalle is known not only for its purity, but for its massive trees and flowers--known as titans--enhanced by the natural power protecting the isles and mainland. Several of Schalle's cities are built within these huge plants and protected by their roots and canopies.

Many elves who lamented over the wild magics loosed in their ancestral lands journeyed here with Kelan Flarion's aid; they now serve to nurture and protect the balance here.

Most advanced society in Schalle is found along the coastal areas; a great boundary has been created on all sides to carefully monitor who and what goes in and out, as well as to leave the inner areas free for wildlife sanctuaries.
