For countless years, sentients believed that their dreams were mere figments of the imagination; stories and images relayed by the mind as entertaiment as their bodies were renewed for the coming day. With the creation of the Fatis Mirajin, this theory was put to rest. This place was named the Reverie--the Dreaming. Reverie is unique in that it is both a mirror realm as well as an elemental realm. Some locations in Valenth exist in Revere, directly layered atop one another; the Cathedral of a Thousand Roses in Laps-du-Ment is the most significant example of this. Aside from these static locations, Reverie is an ever-shifting land, influenced by the dreams of people in Valenth. The bulk of its population is made up of those dreamers as they visit the plane while sleeping, but native creatures include leupaks, boralion dragons, and a wide host of chaotic dreamkin and dream-beasts, including a mysterious subrace of Aeneski and the spirits of the dead who were taken over completely by the Fatis Mirajin's mutagenic energies. The vast majority of Reverie's land is unsettled, instead left to provide plenty of room for dreams and dreamkin to spread and flow where they may. It is impossible to catalogue everything that exists or may exist in the realm, even within Reverie's fluid reality. All sentient beings capable of dreaming visit the Reverie frequently throughout their lives, though most are unaware that their soul actually travels while they sleep. Entering Reverie in this way is harmless; all events are impermanent, usually forgotten at least partially upon awakening. However, the Fatis Mirajin's slow deterioration of the waking world has opened up intradimensional portals to the Reverie known as aetherholes. These portals allow a creature to enter the Dreaming in body as well as spirit. One remembers everything when passing between worlds, but more importantly is the fact that the body is vulnerable. Permanent physical change, true pain, and even death is possible-- and creatures who die on Reverie are doomed to remain there forever as a permanent part of the dream. This can be negated with proper preparation, but the process is tedious and expensive. |
